Cockfighter is a 1974 USA drama by Monte Hellman. Starring Warren Oates, Richard B Shull and Harry Dean Stanton.
The film was denied a screening at the 2006 Edinburgh Film
Festival after advice from the BBFC who stated that UK Law does not allow public performance of films with real animal cruelty staged for the film.
The film has never been submitted to the BBFC but they have commented about
the film as follows: The film COCKFIGHTER, as its title would indicate, contains several scenes of cock fighting in which birds are goaded to fury in order to fight each other. These sequences are unsimulated and were expressly
created for the purposes of the film. As a result, this work would be in breach of the Animals Act.
Summary Review
Frank Mansfield has wanted to win the Cockfighter of the Year medal for
ages. Frank never speaks. After shooting his mouth off one too many times then losing a champion rooster in a casual hotel room cockfight, he swore never to speak again until he's won that award... He makes a bet with old crony Jack to be settled at the
upcoming meet. Frank puts his car and his trailer on the line; he loses. Jack gets the trailer, and Frank's part-time girlfriend who goes with it. Frank's long-time girlfriend Mary Elizabeth wants him to get serious and settle down. But Frank has to
raise some money for a new cock - $500 - then he can form a partnership with fellow cocksman Omar Baradansky and make another try for that medal...
Warren Oates plays Frank Mansfield in 1974's Cockfighter .
Although outlawed in most states, cockfighting was legal in Georgia, and Oates portrays a top trainer. However, Mansfield is also a deeply flawed man whose success leads him to recklessness. On the night before a major fight, he impetuously enters a
cockfight that ends badly. At that moment, he takes a vow of silence, which he will not break until he can regain his position in the sport. Throughout most of the movie, therefore, Oates is mute, with his thoughts serving as narration.
Warren
Oates is truly great in this role. His weathered face and ability to portray unsympathetic characters in a likeable manner bring great authority to this film.
Despite being a solid character study, the film is
probably of limited appeal. For the most part, the sport of cockfighting (if you consider it a sport) serves only as the background, and the characters drive the film. However, the sport is presented in an unflinching manner. The bloody and violent
aspects of cockfighting are not glossed over in any way. Thus, this film is definitely not for people who are squeamish or extremely passionate about humane treatment of animals.
If you can set aside your
distaste for the topic matter, then you will be treated to some great acting and directing and a truly unique cinematic experience.

Initially banned by the BBFC for 1973 cinema release. Resubmitted with cuts
and then further cut by the BBFC for 1974 cinema release. Passed 18 uncut in 1988. Uncut in the US
Summary Review : Blaxploitation classic!
Coffy is a nurse whose younger sister
gets involved in drugs and is severely injured by contaminated heroin. Coffy sets out on a mission of vengeance and vigilante justice, killing drug dealers, pimps, and mobsters who cross her path.
Maxim magazine lists Coffy
as number 7 on its list of the 50 best B-movies of all time, and there can clearly be no mistake about its status as a B-movie. Pam Grier shines in this hilarious action-packed blaxploitation flick where she first got her name as a 'black pin-up queen'
during the early 70's.
This brilliant film mixes comedy right in there with the action. From the campy catfight scenes when Coffy dumps a salad bowl onto a blonde girl's head, to when King George makes his first appearance and steps
out of his car in his pimp outfit, complete right down to the feather in his hat! The action is fairly consistent. There are a lot of guns firing off and endless catfights.

Joe Martin, a quiet
American, lives a quiet life in the South of France renting boats to tourists. He is happily married to Fabienne and has a twelve-year-old daughter named Michèle. But the quiet man has a past: ten years before, Joe (then Moran) had escaped with four
other convicts, among whom the sadistic ex-mercenary Katanga. Seeing the latter brutally kill an M. P., Joe had abandoned his accomplices and left with the car. One night, Captain Ross, Katanga, Whitey and Fausto re-appear..
This is not the greatest Bronson movie ever made but it is nonetheless entertaining. It does have one spectacular car chase or rather motorcycle pursuit on winding roads of south of France. There are some nice performances and it's fun to see James Mason play a villain although he's a likable one. Liv Ullman is fine and Jill Ireland plays a hilarious rich hippie chick.

According to dvdcompare.net the R1 America MGM is missing 1s. In the sequence where Vincent Price and Peter Lorre are attempting to keep a supposedly-dead Basil Rathbone inside his coffin. Price and
Lorre finally "succeed" by both sitting on top of the coffin. On the DVD, this scene immediately cuts to one of Price and Lorre suddenly hitting the floor for no apparent reason. This is cut: Rathbone's character is obviously still alive,
because he suddenly pushes the coffin lid upward with all his might, and you see Price and Lorre flying up and backwards onto the floor.
The recent region 2 Optimum release includes the scene in question intact.
The softcore film was originally made as The Coming of Seymour but was released in the US as The
Fabulous Fanny to relate it to a cartoon strip in Playboy. It was not a success and was reworked with extra scenes and re-released in 1977 as The Boob Tube Strikes Again!
The film is about a couple interacting
with an X rated film on hotel TV. The film within a film is about the voluptuous cartoon character of Fanny, who dominates the daydreams of young Seymour. This sexual obsession stands in the way of his siring a child that will enable him to inherit the
family fortune. Seymour thoroughly enjoys his attempts to impregnate as many beautiful women as possible, but each time he is unable to reach that million dollar climax.
Cut to achieve an
American R rating. The scene where a female character states her objection to oral sex on the grounds of sperm's high calorific content has gone.

The film was originally cut in the US for an R rating. The film was then further cut in the UK for all releases until an uncut theatrical version released in 2008. There is also a Director's Cut with the violence cut for the an R
rating restored. This was passed 18 uncut by the BBFC in 2007 but was not released until 2015.
Summary Notes
A retired elite Black Ops Commando launches a one man war against a group of South American
criminals who have kidnapped his daughter to blackmail him into starting a revolution and getting an exiled dictator back into power.
There is NO scene of Arnie whacking the bad guys with the severed limb, but there
ARE extra bits of gore that were cut for an R rating during the tool shed scene:
The pitchfork killing features additional reaction from the soldier as he dies and an extra shot as he slumps to the floor
Schwarzenegger throws a second circular saw blade which embeds
itself into the neck of a bad guy, lots of blood, and more reaction from the soldier as he puts is hands to his neck.
The guy who is axed in the groin is shown in agony longer
The guy with the severed arm is seen lying on the floor, stump in the air, screaming for a second or two longer and for an extra shot when is crawling on the ground.

The BBFC commented in their 2006 Annual Report:
Commando had previously required two cuts for '18' to reduce strong bloody injury detail. These cuts were waived when the work was resubmitted, both to reflect public
expectations following the Board's public consultations in recent years and because the cut scenes are now considered to have little impact on the tone of the work as a whole or its likely effect on an audience.

UK: A 26s pre-cut Theatrical Version was passed 18 without further BBFC cuts for:
2001 20th Century Fox R2 DVD
The pre-cuts which the UK (and R2 Scandinavian and R4 Australian) releases contain, have their origin in Germany. These cuts were imposed on German theatrical and video releases by the German censors, FSK, in order to achieve an "FSK 18"
rating. So these cut masters must have served FOX to produce their UK DVDs.
Thanks to Luis who has specified the cuts are as follow:
0:02:00 - Before the credits Cooke (Bill Duke), disguised as a garbage man, shots a man from a short distance. A scene in which he approaches the body and shoots it on the chest several times was cut. On the DVD we see him getting near and then
lowering the gun and going back.
0:21:17 - Matrix (Schwarzenegger) hits the guy with him on the plane with an elbow. Then pulls a blanket over him to make it appear that he's sleeping. On the uncut version he pulls the head of the man down
gently and breaks his neck, before covering him. In the censored version, the man is killed with a single blow or maybe died from a heart attack during his sleep!
0:45:30 - Matrix throws Cooke against some piece of wooden furniture on the floor
(the impact is not seen in any version). We hear him moaning, and then Matrix gets near him. We then see a close shot framing Cooke's face, foaming a bit of blood from the mouth, and the wood spike coming from his chest. Matrix asks for his daughter:
"Where is she?" then pulling the tie of the dying man: "Talk!" Another close shot of the face and the bloody mouth and chest. The DVD version cuts both close shots while also removing both lines of dialogue from Swarzenegger. It also
cuts part of the moaning we hear from Cooke.
1:06:50 - Following to the fight scenes with the Big Ugly Hispanics (BUH), a cut is made when Matrix stabs one on the stomach
1:07:09 - A BUH is killed with a knife on the throat. The frontal
shot is cut (it's not very bloody originally).
1:07:17 - Matrix killing another soldier is missing
1:08:34 - 5 shots cut to remove the one in which BUH is machine-gunned.
1.10:20 - After some more shooting with the machine gun,
Matrix grabs his pistol. But before that shot, two others are cut: one has more BUHs being hit at a distance (probably the less violent deaths in the film...); another one is a close shot of a BUH being killed with two bullets on the chest (with some
blood spilling).
1:11:38 - Here we're in the famous tool shed sequence.. A soldier approaches the door and opens it. He's stabbed by a pitchfork on the chest. This was cut in this version, even though they left the more violent scene in which a
man is killed with a circular saw that cuts part of the top of his head.
1:11:40 - After the second saw, Matrix grabs an axe and a machete, he uses the axe between the legs of a BUH and then proceeds to the last Hispanic. He grabs his arm and
cuts it with the machete. 5 shots where removed here, eliminating both deaths. On the censored version, after the last saw we see Matrix immediately grabbing a machine gun from the floor.
1:19:50 - During the "releasing some steam"
scene, after Matrix throws a metal pipe at Bennett there's originally a close-up shot of the bad guy's chest with the pipe against it (there's no blood). We then see him moaning and spilling some blood from the mouth. The camera slowly pulls back framing
Bennett and the pipe releasing steam. The censored version is cut before the pipe enters the frame, passing for a shot of Matrix, which then delivers the line "Let out some steam, Bennett!" Much moaning is also cut with this; so, just like
Cooke, Bennett has a much faster death with a bit less suffering.

The rest of the horse falls are from the lengthy stand-off in the desert, featured much later in

3 scenes of horse tripping have been cut from the start where Conan is attacked by net wielding soldiers.
Perhaps the clearest cut is the Camel Attack sequence. Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Malik are riding through the town. Malik

A mockumentary showing the

Trying to play it as an actual documentary, it doesn't really work but it is interesting
nonetheless. A so-called snuff element comes into it at the very end but is rather disappointing. The only redeeming feature is actual deleted scenes from Wes Craven's Last House On The Left, which they play up as actual snuff footage.

Summary Review: Truly strange
Set in a land ruled by an evil sorceress called Ocron and her cruel followers. Two warriors unite to bring her down but she too knows about them and
seeks to destroy them.
Lucio Fulci's stab at the fantasy genre is truly strange and highly enjoyable and therefore a must see for fans of Fulci.
It's a lively affair with much action as well
as some of the most strangest looking monsters you're ever likely to see.
Being a Fulci film you are guaranteed gory moments and Conquest doesn't disappoint as there are bloody set pieces throughout. Yes the effects
at times are laughable but it all adds to the fun and it's accompanied by a pounding score by Claudio Simonetti from Goblin.

Summary Review : Odd and cheesy
A former astronaut helps a government agent and a police detective track the source of mysterious alien
pod spores, filled with lethal flesh-dissolving acid, to a South American coffee plantation controlled by alien pod clones.
This was a very odd and cheesy Italian gore flick, it was a mix of horror and science fiction and it was
directed by Luigi Cozzi.
While Contamination was a decent film I just didn't think it was that good, the first half was very promising as we get to see some impressive gore scenes with the exploding stomachs but then the second half
kind of loses steam and becomes slightly boring. The green alien eggs were a knock off from Alien and you could tell that this film was trying to cash in on its success which was typical of Italian horror films at the time, some of these films were of
course great cause you can't take them too seriously and they were usually gorier than the original films.
Contamination has some pretty bad acting and the direction from Luigi Cozzi was rather low-key with some scenes looking a bit
too dark, the pacing was a bit uneven despite having a great opening sequence which had some great suspense and the film also has a weak plot, but if your a gore hound then you won't mind since there were plenty of great gore scenes.

13 seconds cut from opening sequence showing a dead man's mutilated and decomposing body in a cupboard.
73 seconds cut from opening sequence showing several men graphically exploding after tampering with
alien pods. Footage includes facial explosions and several scientists exploding at the gut in lingering slow-motion.
19 seconds cut from warehouse sequence showing criminals exploding at the gut after unwisely standing
amongst alien pods.
2 seconds cut from warehouse sequence in which remains of freshly-exploded men are shown.
9 seconds cut from climax, in which man's head is devoured by queen alien.
11 seconds cut from climax showing a scientist exploding at the gut after being shot by Ian McCulloch.

Lancaster, as you would

of the negligee-wearing Jan Waters, and Cushing's character then proceeds to cut her throat and mauls with her chest before eviscerating her.

police, black militants and street thugs in an all-out dash to nab $87,000 cash. One of the handful of films directed by acting great Ossie Davis (Gordon s War) with a top-notch supporting cast that includes Redd Foxx, Cleavon Little, J.D. Cannon, John

The BBFC commented:
Distributor chose to remove two shots of a man hanging to avoid giving children the impression that a person can hang for some time with no ill effects and in order to achieve a PG
classification. An uncut 15 was available to the distributor.
Countess Dracula is a 1971 UK horror by Peter Sasdy. With
Ingrid Pitt, Nigel Green and Sandor Elès.
The BBFC originally asked for cuts but these were waived on appeal.
Summary Review:
The brilliant Ingrid Pitt
In medieval Europe aging Countess Elisabeth rules harshly with the
help of lover Captain Dobi. Finding that washing in the blood of young girls makes her young again she gets Dobi to start abducting likely candidates. The Countess - pretending to be her own daughter - starts dallying with a younger man, much to Dobi's
annoyance. The disappearances cause mounting terror locally, and when she finds out that only the blood of a virgin does the job, Dobi is sent out again with a more difficult task.
Director Peter Sasdy may have let the brilliant
Ingrid Pitt run a little wilder amongst the drab sets with the roles of Bathory young and old, but her joy at hamming it up helps place this as one of the better later Hammer productions. Nigel Green and Maurice Denham give twitching support.
Although cinema cuts were requested by the BBFC (and the film remains listed as cut on their website) the edits were never made following an appeal by Hammer to chief censor Stephen Murphy.

Countess Perverse is a 1974 France horror thriller by Jesús Franco. With Alice Arno, Howard Vernon, Kali Hansa.
The Director's Cut is the original version before Franco tried various
edits to try and sell it. An Italian version include hardcore inserts with Alice Arno and Lina Romay whilst a French hardcore version featured Monica Swinn and Pierre Taylou. Franco later remade this film in 1997 as Tender Flesh.
It is reported that
the cannibal elements restricted distribution, perhaps this was an issue for British distributors and censors. There has been no attempt to release the film in the UK.
Summary Review: Sordid flesh festivities
Two wealthy aristocrats lure a virginal girl to a Spanish island for a night of sex, death and cannibalism.
Half the film is devoted to Sapphic sessions and sordid flesh festivities just shy of pornography.
Franco is the ultimate cinematic voyeur and his films appeal to those with voyeuristic tendencies, and what they always lack in plot development offer prurient interest and degenerate lust as compensation.
Franco stable mate
Howard Vernon's back as his usual creepy self, the baron chef with unusual culinary skills and a smile that would make your skin crawl.
All in all, I found this to be a really enjoyable watch
The tag, Director's Cut means that it is the original film before Franco started to splice in hardcore inserts. Normally these are a bit of a negative, but when they involve Lina Romay I think I would prefer the version with the inserts.
