As the 1970s wore on and audiences began to tire of the tried and tested giallo formula popularized by the thrillers of Argento, Fulci and their contemporaries, filmmakers sought to reinvigorate the ailing movement by injecting elements from other genres. Some took inspiration from the then-burgeoning crime thriller movement, with tales of organised crime and corrupt police officials... while others decided to sex things up by crossing serial killer thrills with salacious softcore antics.

A spate of highly sexualized murders is rocking a prestigious Milanese fashion house. Ambitious photographer Magda (Edwige Fenech, Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key ) and her on-off boyfriend, love rat Carlo (Nino Castelnuovo, The English Patient ), team up to crack the case. But, with the motorcycle helmet-wearing killer clearing bearing a grudge against the agency s employees, it s surely only a matter of time before they too end up feeling the force of his wrath...

So roll up for a Euro cult experience like no other, with kitschy fashion shoots, back alley abortions, blow-up sex dolls and some very indelicate humor, as one of the most notoriously sleazy gialli ever produced gets the red carpet treatment from Arrow Video!

Mondo Macabro's Exploitation Double Bill Release THE WILD PUSSYCAT plus THE DESERTER

The WILD PUSSYCAT is an unsung classic of exploitation cinema. Produced in Greece in 1968, it was not officially released there until 1972 and then only in a cut and compromised version. The simple plot concerns a women whose sister was exploited and driven to suicide by a sleazy pimp. In order to get revenge on him the woman seduces the man, drugs him and imprisons him in a sound proofed room, tormenting him through a large one way mirror (he can see out, no-one can see in) by performing sultry strip tease dances and having sex with men and women while he can only look on, helpless to stop it or join in. Her final vengeance on him is so shocking it raises eyebrows even today.

In spite of its lurid subject matter and explicit visuals, THE WILD PUSSYCAT was not a low budget quickie with a cast of unknowns and a first time film maker. It was directed by Dimi Dadiras, one of the most successful director/producers of the period, and it features one of the big stars of Greek cinema - Gisela Dali, known in her day as "the Greek Bardot".

The Blu-ray includes both the 1972 Greek version (with much of the sex removed and a plot featuring a drug dealing con inserted) and the full on, uncut export version. So essentially there are three films on the disc.

THE DESERTER, a rarely seen Greek production from 1970, is a fascinating and powerful film about a young soldier who escapes from a seemingly endless war only to find himself trapped in an emotional and sexual battle between two desperate women. One of them, Ermina (played by Italian star Franca Parisi), is stuck in a loveless marriage with a boorish farmer who plans to make his fortune by selling cheap hootch to soldiers. The other - much younger - woman, seems to live in a bizarre and dangerous fantasy world. She is played by famous Greek singing star Alexandra Kyriakaki. The great Gisela Dali "the Greek Brigitte Bardot" also stars in this production, in a small but unforgettable role as a witch who casts a love spell on the soldier.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:

Brand new HD transfers from negative.
    Newly created English subtitles.
Greek version and uncut export version (WILD PUSSYCAT).

    SCREAM... YOU RE ON TV

The Real World meets Saw by way of Suspiria in this super-smart, super-gory - and, sadly, super-overlooked - late 90s slasher effort from filmmakers Daniel Liatowitsch and David Todd Ocvirk, released in the midst of the post- Scream slice-and-dice revival.

A group of youngsters arrive at a snow-covered house under the guise of participating in a ground-breaking new experimental film. With the entire property fitted out with cameras, their every move will be recorded. But when the house locks down, trapping the youngsters within, it soon becomes clear that something sinister is afoot. Scream - you re on camera...

Marketed as little more than a generic horror flick at the time of its release, Kolobos , far from being a run-of-the-mill slasher clone, has much more in common with the booby-trap stylings of Cube (1997) and the reality TV theme of My Little Eye (2002), which it preempted by some three years.

Rightfully cut by the BBFC for 18 rated Blu-ray in 2019. Uncut and MPAA Unrated in the US but surely not a good idea to import it into the UK.

BBFC Cuts required to remove potentially indecent images of a child.

    Thanks to James:

The villain of the movie has a large framed photo of a reclining naked pre-pubescent girl hung up on their wall in the background of a scene and is pretty prominent throughout, probably talking up half of the screen space.

So it's not really a surprise that it's been cut. In fact I'm curious how they have handled the cuts because it's prolonged and prominent enough that removing all frames with it in would render the scene un-watchable. I'm assuming they will have to mask it out rather than remove the footage (which is probably why they haven't mentioned the length of the cuts).

    Arrow commented:

We would like to take this opportunity to let UK fans know that our upcoming release of Sister Street Fighter: Hanging By A Thread, will be censored (not cut) in one scene. This is due to a potentially indecent image of a minor used as set decoration in the lair of one of the villains - visible in one shot for approximately 31 seconds which the BBFC advised breached the Protection of Children Act 1978.

As this scene features important expository dialogue, instead of cutting it out completely we have decided to zoom into the other half of the frame, cropping out the offending part of the image entirely. The US edition will be unaffected.

Apart from this, all four films in the set will be released for the first time in the UK in all their bloody, bone-snapping uncut glory, including the gore and weapons scenes cut from previous UK releases of the first film! The US edition will be unaffected.

Arrow also noted that the company originally intended to implement the cuts by blurring the picture. However the BBFC would not allow this and so the company implemented the cuts by reframing.

    Promotional Material

After the massive success of The Street Fighter , the Toei Company decided to build a new karate series around a female lead, and cast a young actress who had appeared in a cameo role alongside her mentor Sonny Chiba. Still a teenager at the time, Etsuko Shihomi exploded onscreen in her first leading role and created a new character type: a tough fighter who was fierce, fearless, good-hearted, and decidedly non-sexualised, a departure from Toei s typical formula.

In 1974 s Sister Street Fighter , Shihomi is the half-Chinese, half-Japanese Li Koryu, who travels to Yokohama to investigate the disappearance of her brother, an undercover cop. Li discovers a smuggling ring run by a drug lord with his own personal army of deadly fighters, and must penetrate his evil lair with the help of a fellow karate master (played by Chiba). Shihomi and director Kazuhiko Yamaguchi ( Wolf Guy ) made two additional films based on the same character over the next year, Sister Street Fighter: Hanging By A Thread and Return Of The Sister Street Fighter , with a final unrelated follow-up ( Sister Street Fighter: Fifth Level Fist ) helmed by original Street Fighter director Shigehiro Ozawa appearing in 1976.

Genre entertainment of the highest order, the Sister Street Fighter films are a wild ride through some of the best exploitation cinema Japan produced in the 1970s. Funky and over-the-top, filled with wall-to-wall action, and featuring some of the craziest villains ever depicted onscreen, the series embodies female power in a male-dominated genre and is a magnificent showcase for the physical presence and martial arts skills of its lead star.

The Nomed Family has been the victim of an ancient curse in which the first born daughter of each generation has gone violently mad and then suspiciously dies. No one can explain the Nomed madness, but some say it's because of the possession of a terrible demonic force. By way of an unnatural urge during her mother's funeral, Susan entered her family's mausoleum, and ever since an evil presence has been lurking inside of her, waiting for a chance to come out. Now an adult, something is hiding inside Susan's body, coming out to grotesquely murder anyone who comes too close to uncovering her terrifying secret.

A consummate blending of early 80s supernatural horror and slasher film tropes, Michael Dugan's ( SUPER SEAL ) MAUSOLEUM is a stylish, sleazy, and outrageously gory production, featuring a series of imaginative death scenes orchestrated by effects wizard John Carl Buechler ( REANIMATOR , TROLL ). Starring Bobbie Bresee ( GHOULIES ) and Marjoe Gortner ( WHEN YOU COMIN' BACK RED RYDER? ) and featuring a moody orchestral score from Jamie Mendoza-Nava ( BOYS OF COMPANY C ), Vinegar Syndrome is pleased to bring MAUSOLEUM to Blu-ray, fully uncut and newly restored from its camera negative, with its 'explosive' opening sequence completely intact.

For the third and final instalment in his infamous 'Blood Trilogy', Color Me Blood Red, splatter movie pioneer Herschell Gordon Lewis turned to the world of fine art for this tortured tale of a troubled artist turned homicidal maniac. Painter Adam Sorge has found himself in a bit of a creative lull. But when his girlfriend accidentally cuts her finger, he realizes what his work has been missing all this time - human blood! With pressure mounting from local gallery owner Farnsworth to deliver his next masterpiece, Adam sets about procuring as much glorious haemoglobin as he can muster - first from himself, and then from anyone unfortunate enough to pass by his sickening studio of slaughter. The final filmic collaboration between H.G. Lewis and producer/master exploiteer David F. Promotional Material

Severin Films presents SKINNER - Uncut. Unrated. Unconscionable. The notorious '90s shocker scanned in 4k for the first time ever!

It's been called "sleaze-oozing" (Flick Attack), "gut-churning" (The Bedlam Files) and "incredibly tasteless" (Cult Reviews). It featured the most intensely graphic scenes yet by KNB EFX Group (THE WALKING DEAD). Uncut, it remains perhaps the most disturbing and rarely seen shocker of the '90s.

Ted Raimi (XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS) delivers an unnerving performance as psycho drifter Dennis Skinner who wears flesh-suits he slices from doomed prostitutes, falls for a lonely young housewife (Ricki Lake of HAIRSPRAY fame), and is himself hunted by a horribly scarred survivor (an equally unhinged performance by Traci Lords). Richard Schiff (THE WEST WING) co-stars in this still-potent sickie from veteran television director and one-time Heidi Fleiss boyfriend, Ivan Nagy. Now scanned in 4k from the original camera negative and including the complete hooker-flaying sequence.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:
