Macabre is a 1980 Italy horror thriller by Lamberto Bava. Starring Bernice Stegers, Stanko Molnar and Veronica Zinny.
Never censored but played a small part in British censorship history when the VHS was held up at the 1983 Conservative Party conference during the video nasties panic as an example of everything rotten in the video industry and proof
that censorship was urgently needed.
Macbeth is a 2018 UK drama by Kit Monkman. Starring Wunmi Mosaku, Al Weaver and Mark Rowley.
The film was pre-cut for a 12A rated cinema release in 2018. Presumably will later be 15 and uncut on home video.
Summary Notes
Brilliant young general Macbeth pulls off a glorious
victory in battle before returning to an indolent court where honours are dispensed by whim. Spurred on by prophesying drifters and an ambitious wife, Macbeth sets his sights on the throne. In Kit Monkman's adventurous new adaptation, this compelling
tale of unchecked ambition, soured friendship, lost intimacy and the descent into nihilism is encountered in a strange and claustrophobic territory partly conjured by the mind.

Summary Review: So bad, it's funny
On their way to a disco, Hal and his 'girlfriend' are accosted by a band of Hell's Angels. As they drive away, Hal accidentally runs over one,
killing him. The Angels pursue the couple and catch up with them as they are leaving the disco. They savagely beat up Hal and brutally rape his girlfriend. Hal swears revenge.
This is one of the most disturbing (and not to mention
unintentionally funny) films I've ever seen. The dubbing is atrocious, the violence over-the-top, and the full frontal nudity extreme, there is a LOT of male frontal nudity in this film; so much so that I suspect that either the writer or director
was...well, INTO male full frontal nudity.
It's so bad, it's funny.

Summary Review: One of the Better Nasties
Julia, a teacher in a school for the deaf, has a
hideosly disformed and deranged twin sister that resides in the local looney bin. She escapes to gate-crash a surprise birthday party for Julia by murdering all the party guests with the help of a giant killer Alsation dog, which gets it's come-uppance
when lobotomised by a power drill, in a scene that will offend most animal lovers.
"Madhouse" is one of the better films that was previously on the "banned" list of so-called video nasties
in the UK. It didn't really deserve it's place on the list, but it's easy to spot the scenes that probably put it there.
T he film features two pretty over-the top gore scenes that seem almost out of
place in a movie that exercises restraint in most aspects. The most infamous sequence is the one that shows just how you can put down a dangerous attacking rottweiler with a handy power drill. The other is an axe attack that is so drawn out it becomes
almost surreal.
Although some of the time the action can get rather slow, this slasher stands above it's rivals due to some really good cinematography.

The BBFC passed the film 15 uncut for strong violence and injury detail. The BBFC InSight alluded to the emotional impact of the film:
This is a sombre drama and the violence is depicted realistically, with a strong
emotional impact. In the opening scene people are forced off a bus and made to kneel in a field as they are massacred. Blood spurts are seen as several of them are shot in the back, and in a more distant image a little girl is shot too as she tries to
run away. Several executions are shown, including a man tied to a post, his body juddering under fire with lots of blood as he is killed.
The movie is proving controversial in India as it is based on the Sri Lankan civil war and
speculates about the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Tamil activist groups are calling for the film to be banned. The film was passed by the Indian censors and escaped court bans but was banned by cinema exhibitors in the state of Tamil nadu.

Gérard Depardieu as Olivier enters an apartment in order to rob the place,
but unknowingly breaks into a haven for sadomasochistic fantasies. During the burglary he encounters Ariane (Bulle Ogier) who he had met earlier, but this time she is a dominatrix who controls situations as she dives into other people's madness.
Olivier is spellbound by Ariane as he falls in love with her, and it leads him into a scorching affair where he is bound to be burnt as he is mystified by Ariane's dark trade.
Maitresse is
an avant-garde film as it explores in-depth the theme of sadomasochistic fantasies and its sub-culture as set in a love story.
On this occasion, it was decided that the 1981 cuts to sight of genital detail were no longer required under the terms of BBFC Guidelines or policy, and that the scenes of sadomasochism were
permissible, in this specific context, at 18 . It was recognised that the film was a serious exploration of a difficult subject rather than a prurient or exploitative work. It was also agreed that the scenes in question were unlikely to lead to a
risk of harm to adult audiences in the 21st century, given the relative restraint in their presentation, certainly by contemporary standards.
Heavy edits made to remove the sights of genitals as a woman is being bound and whipped
Edits to shots of abrasions after a man is whipped and subsequently probed with a needle between his
buttocks
Edits to a scene where a male client has his genitals nailed to a plank of wood and his nipples pierced. This was particularly graphic. The scene showed a few pins going through the skin around the penis
rather than through it. No blood either.
The BBFC explained: The BBFC have changed:
Encouraged by a change in the law enabling us to consider the film as a whole instead of throwing our pinnies over our heads over the decency of its component parts,
enabled by the same legislation to consider the audience the film is likely to reach, encouraged by the gradual spread of cinemas catering to an intelligent audience [...] we have changed more than we, or certainly I, would have realised without this
confrontation with ourselves of four years ago . In the end, the Board agreed to classify the film 'X' subject to cuts in three scenes

Mamma Mia! Here We Go
Again
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a 2018 USA musical music film by Ol Parker. Starring Lily James, Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski.
Abba changed the lyrics to some of its classic hits to make them more acceptable to today's PC world. Tracks rerecorded for this summer's blockbuster movie, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, have been altered to remove any hint of
inappropriate relationships between young girls and older men.
The biggest change comes in the 1976 song When I Kissed The Teacher , about a female student besotted with her male teacher. It originally featured the line:
One of these days, Gonna tell him I dream of him every night. One of these days, Gonna show him I care. Gonna teach him a lesson alright.
But the film version changes the teacher's gender and the emphasis:
What a mad day, Now I see everything in a different light. What a mad day, I was up in the air. And she taught me a lesson alright.
The cut scene was an unsimulated scene of a cat being thrown into a room full of rats, the rats killing the cat.
The video was given a limited release to UK ethenic Chinese
video stores only (which probably goes some way to explain why the BBFC treated it so leniently, its' re-enactments of WWII atrocities make Saving Private Ryan look like an episode of The A Team).
The film has

Cut by the BBFC for an X rated 1975 cinema release and agin for an 18 rated

Summary Review: Amazing
Mandingo is truly an amazing movie. One would think that this is as close you can get to actually seeing the slave-owning
south on film.
Mandingo is probably lumped into the "cult/camp classic" category because this is a film no one would dare make today, unless the slaves got a major comeuppance at the end. They do not here.
This film is a brutal look at slave owners and their slaves which will leave the audience gasping. Some of the lines are so daring by today's politically-correct standards, there's no doubt they'd get a lot of laughs.

When an accident involving a folding machine at an old laundry occurs, detective John Hunton decides to
investigate. What he finds is the owner of the laundry, Bill Gartley. Meanwhile the folding machine has acquired a taste for the flesh of human beings, but is there more to Bill Gartley than meets the eye, and does he know what monster hides behind the
machine?
Sherry tries to rescue Mrs. Frawley from the mangler by grabbing her legs. Just after she has done that, there is a bloody close up of Frawley's head inside the machine (2 sec)
About 16 secs later there is
another close up of Frawley inside the machine. It shows her upper body covered in blood (2 sec)
The death of Frawley is also shown in close up. It shows when her head is crushed by the roller. (2 sec)
When Pictureman takes the second picture of Frawleys mangled body, the close up stays longer and shows a pile of flesh (3 sec)
In the scene where George gets stuck in the machine, a close up is shown when the axe hits his arm, it sprays blood first on the man who cut Georges arm, then on Sherry. Gartley yells "Sherry", a close up of Georges
face and the bloody stump is then shown. George yells in agony and Sherry looks up to Gartley. This lasts about 11 sec
When Lin Sue gets killed, it shows in close up her body beeing mangled (2 sec)
A
few sec later, there is another close up of her mangled body ( 2 sec)
The death of Gartley, it shows a 5 sec shot when his thigh gets folded to his stomach. Intercut is close ups of Hunton.
About 14 sec
later when Gartley finally has been mangled, a close up of his waist is shown, it sprays blood up in the air. What only remains is his upper body (2 sec)
This is a workprint variant that is missing several small but important pieces of dialogue and had an altered pre-credits sequence. It incorporates some brief shots from the 1987 director's cut (which runs four minutes longer than the true
theatrical cut), while dropping a few shots from the true theatrical cut.

Promotional Material
Elijah Wood stars in this remake of director William Lustig's 1980 horror classic of the same name. To say that Frank (Wood) is a troubled young man would be an
understatement - as the ever-growing number of young women he has murdered since the death of his mother (America Olivo), with whom he enjoyed an unhealthily close relationship, demonstrates only too well. Frank runs a mannequin store and likes to apply
the scalps of his victims to the models in his spare time. However, when beautiful young artist Anna (Nora Arnezeder) wanders into the store and talks about making use of its resources for an exhibition she is planning, she presents Frank with a
troubling quandary. Anna appears to offer the possibility of a human relationship that will fill the void created by his mother's death, but she also excites his desire to kill and possess. Will Frank be able to overcome his homicidal urges?

Summary review: Shocking
This is definitely a film that will leave you
thinking. The main reason being the main character Frank Zito aka Joe Spinell plays the most realistic psycho/deranged person I've ever seen on film. The whole time I was thinking is this guy really insane? Either this guy is a genius actor or he's
really nuts. That's how real he is in this role. His presence will creep you out. He's the biggest weirdo I've ever seen on film.
The story focuses on frank the serial killer and his killings and insanity. Some of the
scenes are gruesome, but they will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will be able to put yourself in both franks shoes and feel the victims terror as she is stalked and hides from Frank... Especially the subway bathroom scene. That's an intense
scene. Frank keeps on killing till the end when his own demons finally come back to haunt him.
Any horror fan should have this in their collection.

1981 cinema release
The BBFC explained their 1998 ban:
Two (of the videos rejected so far in 1998) were serial killer films in which sex is linked with the pleasure of
killing. In one of those films, Maniac, a series of defenceless women are stalked, terrorised, attacked and murdered, while being photographed in a deliberately sexualised way. The film is one of a genre known as 'stalk and slash', and here each stalking
and killing is protracted, sometimes ending with the scalping of the victim. When the police eventually catch up with the killer, he survives, leaving us to anticipate that the stalking and mutilation will begin again. The pleasures on offer here seem to
the Board to be unhealthy and dangerous because of the way that the killing of women is linked with the sexual arousal of men.
Gossip has it that Maniac was initially viewed by four censors; three men and one woman. The three men said the
film should be rejected because of its anti-women depictions. The woman thought the film was cut-able.
Maniac is a 1963 UK crime horror by Michael Carreras With Kerwin Mathews, Nadia Gray and Donald Houston.

What unfolds here is the depiction of need, fantasy, wish fulfillment and the use of allure to entice weakness and then to smash those lives upon the
sharpened stakes of feminine guile.
The bored middle class housewife finds fantasy and reality in her art class friend, her saviour and her mortal danger. Her muse senses the need and draws her into her web. Initially
entailing the victim to make small sacrifices until they become larger and larger to prove her love. Ending with the demand to enter oblivion at the behest of the siren.
It is slow placed, shot using various focal
settings, capturing the essence of the claustrophobic worlds of need, desire and the avenging angel.
The naked bodies, scandalous in the 60's, now in an age of image bombardment, have a diminished potency. The beauty of
the protagonist still projects as does her guile.

A topless dancer attracts, seduces, then murders the men she sleeps with using household tools.
This little gem is one of the first key films to combine gore with sleaze. Groovy

Mardi Gras Massacre is a 1978 US horror by Jack Weis. With Curt Dawson, Gwen Arment and William Metzo.
Banned as a video nasty in 1983. Not released since in the UK. Uncut in the US
Summary Review: Cheese and sleaze!
Not exactly a straight slasher as many believe but it's surely as cheesy, and unintentionally funny as any slasher from the 80's.
Mardi Gras Massacre could be considered as a toned down exploitation low
budget. The plot asks for brutality, violence, sleaze but the truth is that the execution of the idea isn't as half as good as it should.
The ritual method is repeated in all the death scenes. So we don't get originality or probably there wasn't
enough budget to at least create three different gore scenes. It's okay but even ultra low budget slashers have at least two different killing methods! Anyways, Mardi Gras Massacre has generated some kind of cult over the years but sincerely, this
isn't a must see. The movie should only be watched by b-movie lovers or morbid fans of low budget cheese and sleaze!
Released on VHS in 1982 on the Goldstar label and later on the Market label. Banned as a video nasty in November 1983 and stayed on the list throughout the panic so became one of the
collectable DPP39s.

Summary Review: Atmospheric Euro
Horror
Udo Kier is a witch hunter apprentice to Herbert Lom. He believes strongly in his mentor and the ways of the church but loses faith when he catches Lom strangling Reggie Nalder to death for calling him impotent.
Kier begins to see for himself that the witch trials are nothing but a scam of the church to rob people of their land, money, and other personal belongings of value and seduce beautiful big breasted women.
This film contains very
strong graphic torture including a women's tongue being ripped out of her head, nuns being raped (in the opening credits), and lots of beatings.
Back in its day, this film was probably the most controversial movie ever made as it
depicted the witch trials going on Europe during the darkest page of human existence.
The entire cast gives it their all and makes this film believable. The only hindrance is the dubbing, but for foreign horror film fans like me,
dubbing just adds to the charm.
I was pleasantly surprised and got a much better film than I was expecting. If you're a fan of atmospheric Euro horror, don't believe all the bad hype as this film is a true gem.

Summary Review: Favourite
Chicago DEA agent John Hatcher has just returned from Colombia, where his partner was killed in the line of duty by a drug dealer who has since been taken down. As a result
of his partner's death, John has decided to retire, but his retirement may not be permanent.
The film has some terrific action sequences and set pieces, example being the shopping centre fight which really showcases Seagal's
talents. This has excellent pacing as well as good location shoots. The score for Marked for Death is amazing, suiting the film so well, giving it the right sinister kind of atmosphere. The voodoo elements were cool, Screwface has to be one of the best
villains and the twist at the end is unexpected.
UK: Passed 18 after about 18s of BBFC cuts with the arm break cut waived for:

The cuts for this version are:
The night-time raid on Screwface's house in Jamaica has lost a neck break and then an arm-break (6 secs).
The end battle between Seagal and Screwface has been cut in two places - firstly a close-up of
Seagal gouging out Screwface's eyes is missing (3 secs) and then a few seconds later a vicious back-break (9 secs) after the two have crashed through the stone wall.
The version showing on Sky TV is also cut (though slightly differently). The recent Channel 5 screening contains all of the above footage - on network television! - in exchange for a brief snip to the opening scene - a hand severing -
which is present in the video version.

uncut on home vide and is uncut and MPAA Unrated in the US
Summary Review : Pretty Tame
Justine tells the tale of two beautiful sisters, Juliette, an
amoral nymphomaniac, and Justine, who seeks a life of chastity and virtue. Unfortunately for Justine, while her depraved sister finds nothing but success and happiness, she suffers constant despair and abuse, being raped, tortured, whipped, and accused
of theft amongst umpteen other disasters during her turbulent young life.
This tale isn't bad, and fairly explicit, for the late 60's, but is still pretty tame, by today's standards. It has a weird appearance by Jack
Palance, as a mad monk. Also, a limited appearance by the late Klaus Kinski.

Wander the Internet
or your neighborhood and it's clear: throughout our culture, much of what was true 20 years ago is not necessarily the case now. Our relationships, romantic and otherwise, are in many ways beginning to reflect these new realities. Set against the vivid,
natural beauty of Northern California and San Francisco, Marriage 2.0 follows a couple (India Summer and Ryan Driller) on their search for personal freedom, emotional and sexual bliss within the context of an honest and committed modern relationship.
What makes Marriage 2.0 a different kind of relationship movie is its frankness; for all the pleasures of open relationships, jealousy and vulnerability do not magically disappear. This love letter to San Francisco - the cultural epicenter of the
alternative relationship movement - suggests that the ideas of growth, novelty, and sexual adventure can exist within a millennial marriage. Marriage 2.0 tells a story both timely and universal.

Thomas A. Anderson is a man living two lives. By day he is an average computer programmer and by night a hacker known as Neo. Neo has always questioned his
reality, but the truth is far beyond his imagination. Neo finds himself targeted by the police when he is contacted by Morpheus, a legendary computer hacker branded a terrorist by the government. Morpheus awakens Neo to the real world, a ravaged
wasteland where most of humanity have been captured by a race of machines that live off of the humans' body heat and electrochemical energy and who imprison their minds within an artificial reality known as the Matrix. As a rebel against the machines,
Neo must return to the Matrix and confront the agents: super-powerful computer programs devoted to snuffing out Neo and the entire human rebellion.
As with channel 5 the Sky movies version of The Matrix not only featured all the removed head butts, but the much talked about "mouse cyber sex scene".

The BBFC cuts were to remove 8 headbutts to tone the film down from 18 to a requested 15. Thanks to Draven for the suggested layout: the cut shots are shown in bold:
Fight sequence where the rebel leader, Morpheus (Larry Fishborne), is captured. The scene starts with Morpheus landing on top of Agent Smith in the bathroom. after which they introduce themselves to one another. Smith then
squeezes Morpheus's knuckles as he moves Morpheus's hands away from his neck. Morpheus then headbutts him as this is all he can do. After this, Smith grabs him by the collar and simultaneously headbutts him three times in a
row after which he punches him in the chest. This throws Morpheus back against the wall behind as per the shitty British version.
Fight scene with Neo in the train station. Towards the
beginning of the fight, there is a shot where Agent Smith kicks Neo which makes him float sideways in the air and then punches him into the wall. Neo gets up after kicking away Smith. He then attacks Smith via punching him in a cool martial
arts manner . As this is happening, agent smith locks Neo by both his arms and headbutts him twice.
Later in the same fight scene.
After Neo is hurled away into the air after one of Agent Smith's punches at which point he spits out blood (both in the scene and in his chair), he gets up and entices Smith towards him via hand gestures. after this he trades punches with Smith
and then reverses the arm block back to Smith and headbutts him twice in much the same way that had been done to him a little earlier. Neo then punches Smith in the chin and does the four cool kicks in the air and chokes
Smith when he sticks his fingers out into his throat when his punch is blocked.
Cinema version should theoretically be the same as the video version but as Dave points out:
I can confirm that The Matrix played uncut in several regions of the North West in
England and in some cases with different scenes. In the Furness region in Cumbria North of England there was an additional scene when Neo stumbles upon Mouse doing some inventive programming on 'The Woman in Red' by making her breasts bigger in his
software program on screen for better 'Cyber sex' manipulation.
This scene was deleted in all international versions (including the R rated print) and runs about 15 seconds with dialogue, but for some strange
reason was included in our region's showing along with the 10 seconds of headbutts and violence. This had been confirmed by several friends who saw the film at that time. I also viewed The matrix in Manchester and it played the uncut R print minus the
Cyber sex scene.

There were 21 complaints about violence and threat in The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. Scenes include gangs of people operating in a lawless environment, and infected zombie-like people attacking other

The distributor sought advice on how to secure the classification it was aiming to achieve. The BBFC advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 certificate but a 12A classification could be achieved by making
some changes, including reducing moments of threat and horror involving zombie-like characters, and reducing the focus on injury in a scene in which a man is beaten for information. When the film was formally submitted for classification, these changes
had been made and, consequently, the film is within the Guidelines at 12A where moderate physical and psychological threat is permitted, as long as horror sequences are not too frequent or sustained and the overall tone is not disturbing.

Thanks to
Stuart who suggests that maybe the cuts were made thinking of the under 12s at a cinema screening who are allowed if accompanied by adults. The 12 rating for home video does not consider under 12s.
And thanks to Jon who suggests that it's more to do
