Director Yuen Woo-ping presents the viewer with a roller-coaster ride of top action set-pieces and amazing acrobatics that show off his stars' skills to great effect. Khan is easy on the eye, but

Throw in some great motorcycle-fu, loads of energetic gun fights, a sword fight or two, and good support from both Yat

I noticed during Friday's late night TV showing (00:50) of the Clint Eastwood film In the Line of Fire on ITV 2 that the previously cut scene of John Malkovich
killing the bank teller and her room-mate at their home was uncut. This meant the fairly graphic depiction of 2 neck-breaks, sound effects included.

In the Realm of the Senses is a 1976 French/Japanese erotic film by Nagisa Oshima. With Tatsuya Fuji, Eiko Matsuda and Aoi Nakajima.
There's a longer Theatrical Version and a (preferred) shorter Producers Cut. Historically 10s have been deleted from all UK releases until the cuts were waived by the BBFC in 2011. The film contains brief scenes of real sex.
The film was first shown here at the 1976 London
Film Festival, where it won the critic's prize, before being acquired by the Gate Cinema in Notting Hill. At the time, the BBFC's Secretary, James Ferman, expressed the informal view that the film would require very heavy cuts to its more explicit sexual
details before it could be awarded an X certificate. Any such cuts were likely to be very damaging to what was already a critically acclaimed film, from an established director.
Ferman therefore suggested that it
would be preferable to show the film, without cuts, to members of private cinema clubs rather than approach the BBFC for a formal classification decision. Nonetheless, Ferman suggested that the film should not be opened, even under club conditions, until after the Obscene Publications Act (OPA) had been extended to include films (by the Criminal Law Act in 1977).
This, he believed, would allow the film to benefit from the requirement in the OPA that publications must be judged as a whole and that a defense of artistic merit was permitted.
Even
then, one scene was edited before the film opened at the Gate Cinema Club in 1978, as a result of further legal advice. The cut was to remove a scene in which an adult woman tugs a young boy's penis, which seemed likely to constitute an indecent image of a child under the terms of the newly introduced Protection of Children Act.
In this slightly censored version the film continued to be shown for a number of years, without a BBFC certificate, in cinema clubs.
Cut for BBFC approved 1991 cinema release
The first attempt at reframing was considered unacceptably crude and damaging to the film. Therefore the scene was reworked in a specialist lab, using a more gradual zoom into the characters' faces.
At the time, the BBFC was also asked whether it would consider granting an
18 certificate for video release. However, given the greater likelihood of the film falling into the hands of children, or being viewed in parts rather than as a whole, the BBFC was unconvinced that the film's immunity to prosecution would be as
strong on video. At the time, explicit sex was not permitted even at the R18 category and The Realm of the Senses was therefore regarded as better suited to cinema screenings where the circumstances of viewing were more able to be controlled
Cut for 2000 VHS
In 2000, the BBFC was again asked to look at the film for DVD release. By this time sexual portrayals at the 18 level had become gradually more explicit and
recent public surveys had shown that the public felt the BBFC could afford to be more relaxed about sex for adults. Therefore, following on from recent decisions on films like The Idiots and Romance, The Realm of the Senses was passed 18 uncut for
video and DVD release, subject once again to the optical reframing of one scene [showing a boy's penis being yanked].

The BBFC reconsidered the
scene in which an adult woman briefly tugs a young boy's penis. The Board concluded that the tugging of the penis does not occur in a sexual context and is in no way sexualised. This scene was optically reframed or deleted on previous releases but was

Summary Review: My own favourite
This is my own favourite Argento movie, but if you try and work out the plot it will drive you
nuts. It's best viewed as a dark and incredibly gory fairytale and companion-piece to Suspiria.
Irene Miracle becomes curious about the history of the old New York mansion block where she lives. Big mistake, but oh forget
the logic. Just lap up the marvellous set-pieces: a swim through an underwater apartment (why is it flooded? don't even ask!), a witchy teenager and a cat who materialise during a music tutorial, a slasher murder set to the Slave's Chorus from Nabucco, a
rat attack in Central Park.
The soundtrack is an audacious blend of Verdi and Keith Emerson. Sheer bliss.

Summary Review: Insightful
All I can say is wow, this was a great documentary. Because of the subject matter it isn't for everyone, and the fact that it has an actual X-rated scene in it doesn't help either. But if you can get past that, this is an
insightful, fascinating look at adult films and our society. And there is a lot of humor in it as well.
I wasn't surprised that several people in the audience walked out, since even I didn't realize how graphic the
language/visuals would be. Showing how Deep Throat brought the "BJ" into the mainstream of adult films was interesting, and the interviews with the people actually making porn were very insightful.

Trailers reveal that the film will be released with regional variations. Most notable is the scene in which the father's feelings
take a break by thinking about sport. In the US, they watch a hockey game while the UK version features a soccer game.
There's also a scene in which the daughter is confronted with vegetables she doesn't like. While most countries
will see that scene with broccoli that is not received well by the girl, the Japanese viewers will get to see that scene with green paprika which is probably liked even less by kids over there.

This Pakistani comedy seizes on the controversy where Muslims were wound up by Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses. Salman Rushdie is depicted in the film played by Afzaal Ahmad. He is portrayed as a criminal mastermind, working for an international organization devoted to destroying Islam.
The film was banned by the BBFC. The board cited the safety of Salman Rushdie as an argument for refusing the certificate, arguing that it could inflame some to violence.
Although the film portrayed Salman Rushdie very negatively, he opposed the
ruling of the BBFC, arguing that:
As a writer, I am opposed in principle to the use of the archaic criminal laws of blasphemy, sedition and criminal libel against creative works, even in the case of a film which quite
plainly vilifies me.
The ban was then overturned on appeal and the film was passed 18 uncut.
Rushdie later said:
If that film had been banned, it would have become the hottest video in town: everyone
would have seen it.
While the film was a great hit in Pakistan, it enjoyed only a limited release in the West, where it went virtually unnoticed.

Summary Review : Beautiful, sensitive erotic story
A failed London musician meets once a week with a woman for a series of intense sexual encounters to get away from the realities of life. But when he
begins inquiring about her, it puts their relationship at risk.
I think this is an extra-ordinary cameo of a brief sexual affair between two strangers. If the sex scenes are controversial then I think it's because they are natural
and realistic, contrasting with stylised sex in mainstream films. This is a beautiful, sensitive erotic story.
It is widely believed that the scenes of sexual intercourse between Rylance and Fox were unsimulated but they are in fact
fake (though they look pretty realistic). The unsimulated sex comes with shots of fellatio occurring between the pair, the blow jobs were not faked!

This is a very different type of Shaw Brothers martial arts film. It reminded me of Lady Snowblood, so if you liked that, then I would definitely recommend this.
Betty Tei Pei plays a brothel
owner, and she is a very evil woman. She could care less about men, and only loves women. When she gets in a new batch of prostitutes, she meets one that she likes. Lily Ho plays the prostitute, and she's a tough little woman, which is why the Madam
likes her so much. Yes, they do makeout, and it is awesome.
The story has Lily Ho taking revenge on all the men she had to sleep with when she first came to the brothel, and it's a pretty simple story.
The acting from Betty Tei Pei is AMAZING, and it is a good overall movie, and has an amazing ending. It's directed by Chor Yuen, and as expected, it is a beautiful film to look at. Chor Yuen worked very hard and put in a lot of
detail to make sure that his movies had a unique look.
The swordplay is quite good for 1972, and it gets pretty bloody.
Intimate Stranger is a 1991 US TV thriller by Alan Holzman. With Deborah Harry, James Russo and Paige French.

Summary Review: For Debbie Harry fans
A struggling bar singer takes a job as a phone-sex operator in order to make ends meet. One night she gets a call from a man who tricks her into listening while he murders a prostitute.
Then he tells her that he's going to kill her next.
The film is a must for Debbie fans. It's a rare lead role for her and she gets the chance to play a warm and sympathetic character.
It's just an average
or maybe slightly above average cable slasher thriller. However Debbie is good in this and the scenes where she sings in the bar are worthwhile. Tim Thomerson is also notable for being quite disturbing.
Introduction to Indoor Growing is a one-hour video work offering the viewer clear and detailed guidance on the cultivation of cannabis plants. Under
the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, the cultivation of cannabis plants is illegal in the UK (without a license or other authority from the Secretary of State for research purposes), as is the ownership, use and supply of cannabis. Indeed, although apparently
produced in the US, it is made clear during the video that the growing of cannabis is illegal in many parts of the word and advice and tips are offered on how to avoid detection. The intention of the work is clearly to assist people in breaking the law
by giving detailed advice on how to cultivate an illegal drug. The work both constitutes an incitement to commit a criminal offence and, in contravention of the BBFC's Guidelines, promotes and encourages the use of illegal drugs.
The BBFC's
Guidelines clearly set out the Board's serious concerns about the portrayal of illegal drugs, particularly when the work in question promotes or encourages their use. The Board's Guidelines clearly state that "No work taken as a whole may promote or
encourage the use of illegal drugs". Furthermore, under the terms of the Video Recordings Act 1984, the BBFC is required, when making a determination as to whether a video work is suitable for classification, to "have special regard (among the
other relevant factors) to any harm that may be caused to potential viewers or, through their behaviour to society, by the manner in which the work deals with [...] illegal drugs" [Video Recordings Act 1984 section 4A(1)].
The Board
considered whether cutting the work would be a viable alternative to refusing a classification certificate but found that, because the entire purpose of the video is to assist and encourage in breaking the law, this was not a viable option.
It is
our conclusion therefore that this video work is in conflict with the Board's published Guidelines and the requirements of the Video Recordings Act. In line with its specific duties under the Video Recordings Act, the Board is required to treat material
of this kind very carefully indeed and the Board therefore finds this to be unacceptable for a classification certificate to be issued to it.

Summary Review: Surprisingly good
Surprisingly good stalk 'n' slash movie
from Scott Speigel (long time associate of director Sam Raimi) was probably the last true slasher flick of the '80's.
Grocery store workers are set to do the night shift when an uninvited guest drops in and the employees begin to be butchered.
An effective dark sense of humor, stylish camera work, and eye-popping gore FX uplifts this movie above the normal slasher fair. The cast isn't half bad, some even make for some quirky characters.
All around Intruder makes for great fun
for the slasher fans, exactly how this gem managed to escape me for so long I don't know! Not for the faint of heart.

Summary Review: Great actioner
A one-man army comes to the rescue of the United States when a spy attempts an invasion.
The
plot is insane. Random terrorists invade the USA; it is never explained who they are, what they are doing, or what they want. Scene after scene of terrorists attacking Americans playing baseball, celebrating Christmas, in a church follow.
However, wherever they appear, Norris appears son afterwards and guns them down with the famous double Macho 10's that Norris tots from a specially designed shoulder holster.
This is artful camp at
its most skilled but this really is one fun movie. Chuck says little, which is probably a good thing and lets his feet and guns do the talking. Great actioner!

Summary Review: Balls
Hwang Jang Lee is a corrupt Ming guard who frames John Liu for murder. A wanted fugitive, John hides out with a teen who is an expert in the infamous Iron Armor technique, a technique that means the
expert can withstand anything. However, Hwang is an expert in it as well as the Eagle Claw's.
Hwang Jang Lee and John Liu, two of the top three kickers in the business (the third being Delon Tam, Liu's instructor), tear up the
screen in this film and that's what counts. My only complaint about the fight scenes is that there were too many distracting, split-second shots of shattered eggs every time someone attacked what they thought was Hwang's vulnerable point (his testicles,
naturally).
This is a fun, straightforward flick that you'll enjoy if Hong Kong kung fu cinema is your thing.

Summary Review: Pretty bizarre
Pretty bizarre British schlock, wherein a girl is lured to a farmhouse in the country to become an unwilling participant in a Satanic
ritual. There are several people staying in the house, and a few end up dying gory deaths or being possessed by a demon.
Badly shot, and the sound quality is occasionally muffled, but this has a surreal edge to it that got
to me a bit (plus some moments of pretty strong gore). Also strange is the film's subtle gay-erotic undercurrent (a lengthy scene of two guys wrestling almost looks as though it might segue into a man-on-man porn scene).
Overall I would recommend
this one to people who enjoy quirky low-budget horror obscurities.

Summary Review: Good Addition
Here is yet another excellent kung fu movie done by Sammo Hung. The fighting is outstanding
consisting of multiple kung fu styles facing off against each other, all done with superior speed and precision. Also sword and other weapons battles round out the action. There are still a ton of fight scenes but not quite as many as some of his other
films, probably short by just a couple. The story is good and has decent acting. It is done well enough to keep your interest throughout and contains some scenes not normally seen in these type of films (nude, rape, a whore house). I was quite surprised
with the amount of nudity shown (female). This movie is definitely not for children.
The Iron Fisted Monk is definitely a good addition to any kung fu collection.

Island of Perversion is a rough diamond from the deep seas of sickness, another gem from 1970s - the golden age of Grindhouse and exploitation! A film where you
can still smell the dirt from the backyard and railway station cinemas it was shown in! But it´' a great one, I enjoyed every second of it!
The story is about two totally weird siblings who travel to Mykonos to free the
peaceful Greek island from all those who are perverted scum in their eyes: gays, lesbians, nymphomaniacs, hippies... Unfortunately, the version that I watched was cut, so I didn't have the chance to see the notorious goat-rape!
Even though the violence is not that graphic in this film, the director seemed to be possessed by the ambition to make one of the most depraved movies ever! Loved the bad surprise ending!

Summary Review: Sorting out the mess
Set in the year 2010, Dr. Moreau (Brando) has successfully
combined human and animal DNA to make a crossbreed animal. Inevitably something goes wrong and David Thewlis must step in to sort out the mess. Perhaps a bit like director John Frankenheimer being asked to step in to sort out the film after personality
clashes got the previous director the sack.
The movie was well trashed by initial reviewers but more latterly reviewers have started to find the good things in amongst the mess.

One creature has his pain controller bitten out of his
chest. This largely happens off-screen, but the whole sequence, which includes more dialogue, last for about 1:30 NTSC.
When Val Kilmer is killed, two shots are missing: one that shows the bullet wound on his chest
(in the same spot where the pain controller implant normally goes), and a medium shot of his chair falling back. Other creatures then empty the gun clip into his corpse, after which one declares, "Now we are men."

There are themes to do with vivisection, animal experimentation and animal hybrids and it looks as though that was
regarded as completely beyond the pale in 1933. In 1932, an H for horror category had been introduced but Island of Lost Souls wasn't even regarded as suitable for that.
There was no one set of guidelines from the early days. Some
of them are very alien from the kind of things we would have now. Things like no mixed bathing, no lascivious dancing.

marketing campaign promising You will actually see someone turned inside out... while he's still alive! , with a newly-filmed trailer featuring just that. Though this scene was not in the actual film, New World were forced to splice the actual
footage from the trailer into all existing theatrical prints, after riots occurred by angry drive-in customers who were mislead.

pain is ultimately more drawn out and prolonged. Not that this justifies the scenes in any real sense.
Review: Sadomasochistic Love Story
The Isle concerns a lonely,
beautiful young woman who works at a remote fishing area. People rent small houseboats on a large lake and spend the night. The woman travels out to the boats each day to do the housekeeping, bring them bait and other rations, and to give them sex if
they want it. One day a lonely young cop rents a boat...but he seems beyond despair and suicidal. When he tries to kill himself by ingesting 5 large fish hooks, the woman saves him. So begins the most bizarre sadomasochistic love story of all time. The
cop gets to return the favour when the woman, upset that all she is to men is a sex object, successfully inserts the same 5 hook arrangement into her vagina.

I saw it back in March
at the Brussels International Fantasy Film Festival and whilst I can't remember any dogs being kicked there was definitely scenes of:
filleting fish to eat for sushi whilst the fish was still alive (the fillet is eaten as the fish flops around)
a guy eating fish hooks (lots of blood) and having them removed
the woman inserting hooks into her vagina (a LOT of blood)
the underwater shot of the guy taking a crap does happen
there's quite a violent sex scene
All in all, it's a pretty good film but rather slow (despite the above). Low budget (which shows) but nicely shot. Bloody bizarre ending though...

The film makers have announced that an IT director's cut is on the way for home media, and it's expected to include at least 15 minutes of extra footage. It will be released in 2018 but not in the first wave of video
releases.

One of the main additions to the IT director's cut will be a longer version of the quarry scene. After the spitting contest it escalates into something that is completely weird and irrelevant to the scene but is so funny. Jack Grazer, who plays
Eddie, does something that is completely bonkers.
There's a great scene, it's a bit of a payoff of the Stanley Uris plot which is the bar mitzvah, where he delivers a speech against all expectations... it's basically blaming all the adults of
Derry [for the town's history of deadly accidents and child disappearances], and it has a great resolution...Maybe it will be in the director's cut!

India: New film censor had hopes of the film being uncut in September 2017...but
India's outgoing and crazed film censor had originally identified 12 cuts for violence and strong language.
The new film censor initially suggested that the cuts could be dropped and the film passed uncut with the adults only 'A' rating.
But the idea proved a bit too much for Indians to bear. In a series of rapid developments, over the last week, the CBFC
had restored all the cuts ordered by the Examining Committee. Then they got cold feet and revised their decision within 24 hours, asking for three muted words, 'pussy', 'motherfucker' and 'cunt'. But then the CBFC has revised its stance on the matter
once again. The film has been ordered to censor just one word 'motherfucker'. Says a source, The CBFC agreed to restore all the cuts, except the profanity.
It Couldn't Happen Here is a 1987 UK musical music adventure by Jack Bond. Starring Neil Tennant, Chris Lowe and Joss Ackland.
A cut was required for a 15 rated cinema release in 1987. Passed 15 for
2020 with the BFI commenting that it will release the film uncut and in 16:9, and so it will be presented as it was originally meant to be shown.
