Cut by the BBFC for 1972 cinema release. Uncut in on home video. Uncut in the US
Summary Notes A Shakespearean actor takes poetic revenge on the critics who denied him recognition. As incredibly good as this movie is, one must give pause before attempting to review it;
after all, Vincent Price plays an actor who murders the critics who panned his performances and cost him the acting award he felt he deserved. I find it something of a relief to have nothing at all negative to say about this unusual, almost brilliant
movie.

They Might Be Giants is a 1971 USA comedy romance by Anthony Harvey. Starring George C Scott, Joanne Woodward and Jack Gilford.
Widely released in a shortened version but there is a full length

Summary Notes They Might be Giants chronicles the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in modern-day New York City. The fact that Sherlock
Holmes is a psychotic paranoid and Dr. Watson is a female psychiatrist fascinated by his case is almost beside the point. Dr. Watson follows Holmes across Manhattan and is, against her better judgment, drawn into the master detective's world of intrigue
and danger. This is a sweet, goofy and fairly romantic film that asks the questions "Whose reality is right...and does it really matter?"

Amazon UK '30 Days of Night' is the movie based on the best selling
graphic novel by Steve Niles. The story begins when a group of vampires flock to Barrow, Alaska where the sun sets for 30 days, allowing them to feed without the burden of sleep to avoid lethal sunlight. Because of the cold, the vampires' senses are
weakened and a few of the town's residents are able to hide. One resident is Sheriff Eben Olemaun (Josh Hartnett), who attempts to save the town and the lives of the few remaining townspeople, including his wife Stella (Melissa George).
This was
probably the film that I was most looking forward to in 2007 and when I finally got to see it, I wasn't disappointed at all. At the time when I first watched this film I hadn't read any of the comics, so the story was new to me, but I enjoyed it all the
same. I've read the comic since seeing this and the film version has a lot more added to it, which I feel was definitely necessary as only the beginning and the end are featured in the original. There's plenty of gore, a great storyline, good characters,
lots of scares and some excellent camerawork. The setting of Barrow feels very isolated and creepy and very, very atmospheric. The vampires have twisted, ugly faces and make eerie, high pitched wails to each other and speak in their own language, taking
the sexy, seductive image away from the over-used and tired character.
Overall this is without a doubt one the best films of 2007 and is definitely the best vampire film I have ever seen. | uncut

30 DAYS OF NIGHTS is a horror thriller set in a remote town in Alaska. As the long Arctic winter is about to begin the town receives some unwelcome visitors. The film was passed '15' for strong, bloody, horror violence and language.
The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state that violence may be strong, but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Strong threat and menace are permitted, but the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. The violence in this film
is certainly strong and gory, but the sequences are invariably brief and the fantasy nature of the work is a moderating factor. The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' also allow for the frequent use of strong language and this film includes the use of a moderate
number of strong expletives.
30 DAYS OF NIGHT also contains a couple of innocuous drug references and very mild verbal sex references. |

most of the additional running time consists of an uncontroversial fake family scene . 'Fuck' can be heard twice in this scene. However, it is doubtful that this was the reason it was removed from the movie. More likely it was because the

Paris cabaret, and the possibility of including it in a Director's Cut Yeah, I think there will be some [deleted footage]. We shot that one scene in the Crazy Horse, which is a very famous cabaret that's visited by women
as much as men. It's not vulgar, at all. It's beautiful. It's like Cirque du Soleil. So, I tested the movie with a longer version of these women doing what I thought was this very, very beautiful dance, and American women were not really into it. I was
saddened because I wasn't like, Ooh, look at the nudity. I just thought it was beautiful. It was like looking at a painting. These women are from the Bolshoi. So, the director's cut will be more involved, and it will speak to this ethereal,
otherworldly quality of the Vivi character.

| UK: The Theatrical Version was passed 18 for strong sex, violence, nudity and sexual violence after 2:48s of BBFC cuts for:
- 2012 Metrodome R2 DVD
- 2011 cinema release
The BBFC commented:
- Compulsory cuts were required to two scenes of sexual and sexualised violence, which included elements with a tendency to eroticise and endorse sexual violence.
The BBFC further explained (ignoring a rather redundant explanation that the film goes beyond a 15 rating): 3D SEX AND ZEN EXTREME ECSTASY is a Chinese erotic period drama about a recently married young man who
embarks on a sexual odyssey when his wife is unable to satisfy his sexual desires. The film was classified 18 for strong sex, violence, nudity and sexual violence. There are frequent sequences of strong sex and
nudity which include sight of a man sucking a woman's nipples, pubic nudity in a sexual context, sight of a man's erect penis, buttock thrusting implying penetration, and implied but masked fellatio and cunnilingus. Before
the film was classified 18 , the BBFC required cuts in two scenes.
- In the first scene, a man rapes a woman, with the woman then going on to enjoy the sex. The scene is shot in the same eroticised style as the rest of the film and creates the impression that rape can be an enjoyable and exciting
erotic experience. The scene was cut to remove the non consensual set up, leaving a purely consensual sex scene.
- In the second scene, a man engages in violent sex with a woman. Although the sex is consensual, the man
beats and whips the woman during sex, before finally suffocating her to death as he thrusts into her. The scene, which is filmed in the same eroticised style as other scenes, creates a strong link between violence and sexual arousal. Although the BBFC
suggested that the scene could be reduced to an acceptable level by multiple cuts, the distributor chose to remove the scene in its entirety.
Both scenes breach the terms of the Guidelines at 18 which state the BBFC may cut any portrayals of sexual or sexualised violence which might, for example, eroticise or endorse sexual assault .

Thriller: A Cruel Picture is a 1973 Sweden action thriller by Bo Arne Vibenius (as Alex Fridolinski). Starring Christina Lindberg, Heinz Hopf and Despina Tomazani.
Banned by the BBFC and Swedish film censors for 1973-4 cinema release. Passed X by the BBFC after heavy cuts for 1976 cinema release. Heavily cut in the US for an R
rating. There is an uncut Unrated US release that contains hardcore inserts. The film was briefly banned in Sweden in 1973 until significant cuts had been made. Summary Notes Gorgeous Swedish cult
siren Christina Lindberg plays Frigga who cannot speak after a childhood trauma. A rather shady character kidnaps her and after getting her hooked on heroine, he forces her to work as a prostitute, and gouges her eye out when she refuses her first
client. Frigga saves her money and pays for lessons in martial arts, before taking her revenge on those cruel customers and her pimp. As the title suggests this is one viciously bleak film. From the barren wind swept
Swedish landscape and eerie electric score to the hard core sex scenes and eye gouge scene which was created using a real cadaver, Thriller is a truly potent cult shocker. Lindberg is a truly striking and
unforgettable cult figure, carrying a shotgun and dressed all in black she is enigmatic and certainly makes shameless plagiarizer Tarantino's work look pale by comparison. Controversy Thanks to Neil and Ben

corpse was used for the scene where Madeleine's eye is taken out with a scalpel. In a March 2006 interview, Christina Lindberg confirmed this. The body was of a young girl who had committed suicide. Makeup was added to the eye, and the shot was filmed in
the hospital that had received the body.

can form his own team, he puts together a group of "throwaways" - the people deemed expendable and seemingly the worst in the organization.

- The first of two short scenes where Bond is seen stroking the naked back of the spa employee with a mink glove was removed. This cut was reinstated for the video release, and has always been present in all home video versions in the UK
See article from bbfc.co.uk : In April 1965 Eon
Productions sent a shooting script of Thunderball to the BBFC for advice on how the finished film might be considered for classification. The
letter published here [pdf] details the BBFC's lengthy response to the script. Mindful that an X certificate would not be consistent with
the previous three Bond films, the letter specifies over thirty aspects of the script that could be problematic for an A certificate. John Trevelyan sums up the general concern of the BBFC when he explains: I get the
impression that this screenplay has been deliberately hotted up with a view to its including more sex, sadism and violence than the previous Bond pictures, and… it seems less light-hearted in tone.
In the end only one cut for an A was
required – the sight of Bond stroking the back of a partially nude girl with a mink glove. |

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! is a 1989 Spain crime comedy romance by Pedro Almodóvar. Starring Victoria Abril, Antonio Banderas and Loles León.
Uncut by film censors, but has a place in censorship history. See
article from
cinemaretro.com : When it came to releasing Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! in the U.S. in 1990, Almodovar was met with some resistance from the MPAA
ratings board. The dreaded X rating was threatened, forcing Miramax, the film's distributor, to sue. The film was eventually released unrated ; however, it was this lawsuit that prompted the MPAA to change the stigmatized X to the more
consumer-friendly NC-17. Ironically, the NC-17 rating wasn't an improvement. The stigma remained and the media in many areas of the country continued the policy of refusing to advertise NC-17-rated movies.)

The cut's were waived when the BBFC decided that the disputed scene did not constitute an indecent image. You do not see Maria's pubes and it seems likely (from other evidence - eg the book about the making of the film) that Scholndorff made her wear
masking tape at this point. The offending shot simply shows a young boy pressing his face against a woman's pubic region (not actually her vagina). It is a serious film with little else to comfort paedophiles and expert views agreed
that the scene was no more indecent (or vulnerable to misuse) than some of the other scenes in the film, such as the sherbert licking. |

BBFC cuts were required for an X rated cinema release in 1960. Home video

a theory that fear is the result of a creature that inhabits all of us. His theory is that the creature is suppressed by our ability to scream when fear strikes us. He gets a chance to test his theories when he meets Ollie and Martha Higgins, who own and
operate a second-run movie theater. Martha is deaf and mute and if she is unable to scream, extreme fear should make the creature, which Chapin has called the Tingler, come to life and grow. Using LSD to induce nightmares, he begins his experiment.

dildo penetration, masturbation and penetration with finger for 18. The sexual detail, though not the knife play, could have been passed R18. The context in which explicit imagery occurs is a key factor in the BBFC's
decisions. But every work is different and it is not possible to list the sort of situations which justify real sex at '18'. Images of real sex were cut from a collection of erotic short films, Tinto Brass Presents – 4, to obtain an '18', on the grounds
that the work was too close in tone and intent to a sex work designed to produce sexual arousal. |

See version details and cuts from movie-censorship.com : Tintorera dances wildly back and forth between relationship
drama, shark horror and soft erotic trash until you no longer know what you're actually watching. The unstructured narrative with a runtime of over two hours seemed unsuitable for international marketing to the distributors, so the film was radically
